Soccer Mommy Releases New Song "Still Clean" via Noisey

February 12, 2018

"Sophie Allison's songs are generously tender, pushing and pulling between preternatural composure and emotional disintegration." - New York Times

"as she makes this empowering demand for respect [on 'Your Dog'], Sophie Allison firmly establishes herself as a vital musical voice we'll be turning to in the years to come." - NPR Music

"If [
Collection is] a sign of what's to come, it's an exciting one." - Pitchfork

"The first single from Soccer Mommy's upcoming album, Clean, is so flippin' good...Sophie Allison sounds feistier, and better, than ever before." - The FADER

"With her nostalgic pop sensibility, Soccer Mommy makes her songs feel intimate as she explores lost love, crushes and growing up." - Billboard

"if Allison's upcoming Clean includes even two or three more songs [as good as 'Your Dog'] you might as well pencil it in on your year-end albums list right now.." - Stereogum (#2 Best Songs of the Week)

"We're deeply impressed with Soccer Mommy's gorgeous, slightly fuzzy sounds, and can't wait for the Nashville singer-songwriter's debut to arrive" - Paste

Soccer Mommy - twenty-year old Nashville native Sophie Allison - will release her highly anticipated debut LP Clean in a few weeks, and today she shares the album's third single. While the record's previous singles "Your Dog" and "Cool" exhibit a new, harder-hitting sound and full band direction for Soccer Mommy, "Still Clean" is a gorgeous return to roots. A stunner of an opening track, "Still Clean" showcases a solo Allison at her best with just her voice, an electric guitar, and, as always, heartbreakingly relatable lyrics. It's also a bridge of sorts, with synth flourishes rising in a crescendo behind her, ushering the listener into Soccer Mommy's new, high-definition world. Listen to "Still Clean" and read Soccer Mommy's Q&A inNoisey HERE.

"'Still Clean' discusses the hopelessness of waiting for someone who's abandoned you," explains Allison. "It uses this idea of being 'clean' to explain the feeling of being stuck waiting for someone, hoping that they haven't moved on from you. When you are stuck in this place of waiting you kind of put your world - and you memory of them - on pause. But as the song shows, sometimes people keep moving while you're standing still, and sometimes you're the only one who's left clean."

Soccer Mommy are on a tour with Phoebe Bridgers now, with more dates in the U.S., E.U. and U.K. throughout the Spring. See below to find a show near you, and get your tickets HERE.

Following a series of DIY Bandcamp recordings and last year's Collection, Clean is Allison's journey out of her bedroom and into the studio with a full band and an incredible record produced by Gabe Wax (War On Drugs, Deerhunter, Beirut) and mixed by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey). "I'd never made a full album before, just EPs and random tracks thrown together. I wanted it to be a lot more cohesive than the rest of the stuff that came before," explains Allison. "I wanted to make something that was a full piece of my life, that addressed similar themes and held together as a whole." The result is Clean, an album that presents Soccer Mommy as a singular artist, wise beyond her years, with an emotional authenticity of her own.

Sophie Allison got her start in the local Nashville DIY scene, going to shows and hanging out with other musicians, though she kept her own songwriting secret. All that changed the summer before Allison left for college at New York University. She bought a Tascam digital recorder and starting releasing songs for free on Bandcamp under the name Soccer Mommy in 2015. A buzz began to grow, leading to live shows, a record deal, and 2017's critically acclaimed bedroom-recorded compilation Collection. So Allison took the plunge - she quit school, moved back home to Nashville, shifting all her focus to music. She toured withMitski, Jay Som, Slowdive, The Drums, and more with no signs of slowing down.

Clean - the cohesive record Allison dreamt of making - is a true step forward, a strong and mature album from an artist just coming into her power. It will be released on March 2nd via Fat Possum - pre-order itHERE.

PC Music Danny L Harle Teams Up With Clairo on "Blue Angel"

February 9, 2018

Danny L Harle is back with new single "Blue Angel" via PC Music. The song features up-and-coming singer/songwriter Clairo on vocals, creating a beautifully sad pop ballad that evokes Travis Scott and East 17 in equal capacity. In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Clairo expressed her love for Danny L Harle and PC Music saying, "I think if anyone pushes pop, it’s them, just because you can see that they’re artists outside music as well. They’re able to zoom out and take all these different aspects of pop and mimic it."

“Blue Angel” marks the first time Clairo and Danny L Harle have worked together and to celebrate the occasion the duo have compiled a short, esoteric interview regarding their collaboration, which you can read below. Expect more collaboration from these two artists on Clairo's six-song EP due later this year.

Danny L Harle: Do you listen to sad music for fun?

Clairo: yes! i listen to all kinds of sad music for fun

DLH: How is Scout your hamster? What is a recent experience you have had with Scout?

Clairo: Scout is doing well, thanks for asking. my mom texts me pictures of him before she goes to bed. it's pretty cool

DLH: What made you want to sing Blue Angel when I first sent it to you?

Clairo: i loved the idea of a "sad banger" as you called it, it's always fun to experiment with music and this was a perfect opportunity to do that!

DLH: Have you heard of the Eurovision song contest?

Clairo: yes i have, conchita wurst is love <3

DLH:Do you like snow?

Clairo: i love snow! snow is lovely

Danny L Harle is best known for his songs Super Natural - a collaboration with multi-Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated singer songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen - Broken Flowers and Ashes Of Love, his acclaimed collaboration with Caroline Polachek of Chairlift.

FRIGS share new track "Solid State", US Tour/SXSW next month, Debut LP 'Basic Behavior' out 2/23 via Arts & Crafts

February 9, 2018

Early Praise for FRIGS:

“one of 2018’s strongest debuts” – A.V. Club (most-anticipated albums of February)

"this post punk gem hits a sweet spot" – Nylon (Best Music Releases of The Week)

“honed the sound to fit their songs of lust, jealousy, power and distraction – a controlled burn rather than an all-out scorch.” -
NOW Magazine (Toronto musicians to watch in 2018)

“sludgy, scuzzed-out post-punk awash in psychedelic feedback and the grunge-hewn emotional ferocity of singer Bri Salmena. It's visceral. It spits.” –
Noisey

Rising Toronto post-punks FRIGS today share “Solid State” - the new single from their anticipated debut full-length Basic Bahaviour, out February 23rd via Arts & Crafts.

“Lyrically, ‘Solid State’ is a stream-of-consciousness/subconscious conversation with myself, effectively more a confessional than a diary entry” frontwoman Bria Salmena says of the track. “The spoken vocals are stark and unfiltered, as their delivery is meant to be intimate and familiar. The song became a representation of the conversations that occur in your head when you are alone.

Basic Behaviour, FRIGS’ debut, self-produced full-length, was written and recorded over a 16-month period, split between two locations: the band’s home studio and Union Sound Company in the east end of Toronto. As much as the lyrical subject matter within the record reflects personal experiences of frontwoman Bria Salmena, the album is a product of years of self discovery as a unit. Recording at home allowed the band to take the time to explore their sound, experimenting with sonic textures and production, and meticulously re-working their material. These sessions proved to be invaluable in creating a sound unique to FRIGS. However, a degree of positive urgency was deemed necessary in order to finalize the process. Working with engineer Ian Gomes, FRIGS embraced the limitations of third-party studio time and completed the record with a sense of immediacy. The resulting contrast between these two approaches in recording creates an end product that is at once stark, chaotic, reflective, and manic, ultimately forming the core of Basic Behaviour’s identity.

FRIGS is made up of Bria, Duncan, Lucas, and Kris. The band pairs the raw, emotional grunge of PJ Harvey with the immersive, psychedelic post-punk of early Sonic Youth. With each member bringing a unique set of influences, FRIGS create a sound that is hard to pin down and an impression that’s unshakable. Led by the force of Bria’s vocals, the band has earned a reputation for putting on a hypnotic and visceral live performance. Embracing the mercurial and experimental, their shows are built upon instinct; a vocal growl can unexpectedly give way to a hushed whisper; languid drones boil over into guttural and searing tones.

Starting next month, FRIGS hit the road for an expansive North American tour, which includes dates in Brooklyn, DC, Chicago, Seattle, SXSW, and more. All dates below.

Bad Gyal Shares Video for "Blink" | US Tour in March

February 8, 2018

"The flamboyant young singer twists and bends languages, fashion trends, and musical styles to her will." – Pitchfork

"Dark, soul-baring reggaeton" – The FADER

Following an impeccable run of singles including "Nicest Cocky" and the Dubbel Dutch-produced "Jacaranda" (FACT Mag’s track of the year 2017), as well as a huge run of sold out shows across the US and Europe, multi-lingual club provocateur Bad Gyal has revealed the visuals to "Blink," the first track from her forthcoming sophomore mixtape.

Filmed while Bad Gyal was on tour in Mexico, "Blink’s" visuals celebrate reggaeton – finding her dancing the perreo in a number of picturesque settings. Travelling from smoking floral beds to lushly illuminated rooftops and warehouses, each scene is designed to entice visually as the track does audibly, thanks to production from CANADA – who were also responsible for her "Jacaranda" and "Nicest Cocky" films - and video direction from Alexis Gómez.

A high-energy splicing of dancehall and reggaeton, "Blink" marks the first time Bad Gyal has collaborated with recent Mixpak signee and Manchester Latin club specialist Florentino. Maximising the producer’s hard-edged style, Bad Gyal rides the instrumental’s full-bodied percussion with highly infectious vocal lines that help the track ripple with polyrhythms. Gliding between ominous, slow-burning bass and intense kick drums – the track merges the forward-thinking melancholy of Bad Gyal with the more immediate, club ready sound that she has also become synonymous with.

The first taste of her forthcoming second mixtape due for release February 23rd, ‘Blink’ marks a huge advance in the duality of Bad Gyal’s sound, taking her progressive approach to party music and carving it further into her own lane. The rest of her forthcoming project embodies this hybrid of sounds too, recruiting the production talents of Jam City, Dubbel Dutch, D33J, the aforementioned Florentino, Paul Marmota, Fake Guido, El Guinchoand more to create something emotionally visceral, rhythmically impactful and most of all, completely unique.

About Bad Gyal:

Bad Gyal is a 20 year old vocalist from Barcelona who has rapidly climbed to the summit of progressive club music, thanks to her forward thinking spin on dancehall and reggaeton - singing trilingually in Spanish, Catalan and English.

She rose to prominence through her viral cover of Rihanna's 'Work', 'Pai', which she followed up with a full-length mixtape, 'Slow Wine' in 2016. Spawning the breakout hit 'Fiebre', Bad Gyal then toured the world off the back of the mixtape including a triumphant homecoming show at last year's Sonar festival. Bad Gyal now plans to capitalise on the huge success of 2017 singles 'Jacaranda' (Prod. by Dubbel Dutch) and 'Nicest Cocky' (Prod. by Paul Marmota) with a new body of work coming 23rd February 2018 that features production from the likes of Jam City, Dubbel Dutch, Florentino, D33J and more.
